Description

On Saturday, September 11th, the Wakefield Food Pantry held its annual Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Event to celebrate and thank the more than 75 volunteers who dedicated countless hours to support those in need. Volunteers started the day with a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The past 18 months were particularly challenging during the COVID pandemic and the pantry is grateful to the community and all the volunteers who helped to keep the pantry open to those in need. The Harriet Winsor Volunteer of the Year Award was given to two volunteers who really went above and beyond during this difficult time. The pantry extends sincere thanks to award winners Roy Robblee and Mike Baker. The event was held at Moulton Field and catered by Pit Stop BBQ of Wakefield. Volunteers were fed a scrumptious meal of BBQ brisket, pulled pork, chicken, corn bread, and fixings. After the meal, there were frozen treats from an ice cream truck! Guests enjoyed lawn games including corn hole and giant "Connect Four", as well as a spirited game of Left, Right, Center. The Wakefield Food Pantry asks readers to consider donating to their organization. Every $1 donated allows them to purchase $4 worth of food. For further information or to donate, please go to www.wakefieldfoodpantry.org. You can email the pantry if you would like to know how you, your organization, or company can help.
