Join IWR for new volunteer orientation and training this coming Sunday
Are you interested in volunteering with IWR but aren't sure where to start? Join us this Sunday for orientation to learn about IWR, our mission, teams, and open roles, and take part in a language training session on best practices for communicating with English language learners. With the crisis in Afghanistan and the current uncertainty about when or where refugees will be resettled, we're hoping to bring plenty of passionate and compassionate people on board now so that we can be ready for whatever the rest of 2021 throws at us.
The training will be held in Dodds Hall, on the basement level of First Presbyterian. As this is an indoor event, masks will be required at all times. Attendance will be capped at 50 people maximum; please register here to reserve a spot.
Ithaca Welcomes Refugees is a community initiative that fosters a welcoming and fair environment for refugees who come to our region. Our work includes resource gathering, fundraising, resettlement assistance, and education and awareness efforts. Our aim is to provide help for all refugees, with priority given to those bearing the additional burden of hate and fear. Our hope is that these efforts will continue the development of Ithaca as a welcoming host community in times of great global need.
