MEDFORD, MA — Actress Julianne Nicholson won her first Emmy Award Sunday. The Medford native took home the Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a limited series or a movie for her turn as Lori Ross in HBO's "Mare of Easttown." She credited lead actress Kate Winslet with convincing her to take the role of the titular character's best friend. "If you hadn't called and asked if I wanted to join you in Philly, I probably would have read the first two episodes, thought 'Nah, the priest did it,' and stayed home. So I owe this to you," she said during her acceptance speech. Nicholson, 50, was born and raised in Medford and graduated from Arlington Catholic High School. Her Emmy was the fourth for the popular HBO miniseries, which included best lead actress for Winslet, outstanding supporting actor for Evan Peters and outstanding production design for a narrative contemporary program. The show was held in-person this year with comedian Cedric the Entertainer as host.
