Description
NANUET, NY — People in Nanuet began calling Clarkstown police at 7:30 p.m. Saturday about a man shooting a gun.
Officers went to 135 Convent Road, where witnesses were able to give both a description of the man who had been firing the handgun and the car he was driving.
Police found a car matching that description near St. Agatha Convent Park. They found two handguns in the car. The sole occupant, a 34-year-old Texas resident, had no legal right to possess the guns, police said.
Officers said their preliminary investigation suggested the man had no intended target and was firing into a wooded area.
"This information makes this no less of a crime," said Detective Norman Peters.
Lawrence P. Moretti faces felony charges including 2 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Morretti was arraigned in Town of Clarkstown Justice Court, where bail was set at $25,000, and sent to the Rockland County Jail.
