MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Lagging recruitment and early retirement is causing concernamong some police officer unions and leaders in Montgomery County, Bethesda Beat reported.
Bethesda Beat said that officers and officer advocates told them that low pay, pandemic stress, and anti-police sentiment are drivers in the decline of officers. The news magazine reported that in Montgomery County between April 2020 and April 2021, police resignations increased 26 percent, from 19 to 24, and retirements increased 18 percent, from 28 to 33.
