Car Thefts, Larcenies Continue To Plague Greenwich: Police

GREENWICH, CT — Car thefts and larcenies from unlocked vehicles continue to be a problem for police, especially during overnight hours, according to Capt. Mark Zuccerella of the Greenwich Police Department. Zuccerella said a Toyota SUV was reported stolen from Rockwood Lane on Sept. 19 around 2:30 a.m. The car has not been recovered yet, and an investigation is ongoing. "Motor vehicle thefts and larceny from motor vehicles continues to be a problem during the midnight hours," Zuccerella said. "The thieves will look for open doors, and if open, then search for the key or fob. If the key/fob is not in the vehicle, anything of value in the car will be stolen." Zuccerella said that officers have been "spotting, attempting to stop, and deterring many would be car thieves who come to Greenwich from other cities in Connecticut, as well as New Jersey." However, he pointed out, not all of the thieves can be stopped. "Removing keys and locking the car doors is the best defense for this activity," Zuccerella said.
