Press release from the CT House Democrats Press: Sept. 20, 2021 State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan (D-Bethel/Danbury/Newtown/Redding) and Apex Community Care are hosting Narcan & Chill where residents can get free training on administering Narcan and potentially prevent a fatal opioid overdose. Naloxone (marketed as Narcan) is a safe, fast-acting, and easy-to-administer nasal spray that can restore breathing and reduce the potentially fatal effects of opioid overdoses. Naloxone should be given to any person who shows signs of an opioid overdose or when an overdose is suspected. A family member, bystander, first responder or medical provider can administer naloxone to save lives. According to the CT Department of Public Health, there were 1,372 confirmed drug overdose deaths for 2020, an increase of 14.3% over 2019. In mid-March, there were already 250 confirmed drug overdose deaths in Connecticut.
