Thoughts on crating your pets

Description

Please be aware that if you crate your pets instead of house training, you are putting them at risk in the event of an emergency. One block from me, about a month ago, a family’s home burned down. The fire station is only 2 blocks away, but it took just 7 minutes for the house to be fully engulfed in flame. The family escaped with minor injuries, thank God. The dogs however, quickly perished in the flames because they had no chance of escape. They were crated in the kitchen, and no one could risk the time it would have taken to free them. I would much rather search for a missing pet than know I killed them by locking them up for convenience. Think about what might happen in an emergency situation. Houses burn faster than you can imagine. There’s little chance you’ll be able to save your pet if it’s locked up. Put in the effort, and actually train your dogs. Teach them to live in the whole house. Let them protect and alert you to any problems, and give them a chance of surviving a disaster.
