Press release from the South Pasadena Public Library: September 01, 2021 In celebration of Halloween, the South Pasadena Public Library will hold a Scary Story Contest. Children and teens in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to submit entries to the South Pasadena Public Library from Monday, August 23 through Saturday, September 18. Submissions should be delivered to the South Pasadena Public Library Children's Services desk. The winners will be announced in mid-October. Submissions must include an official entry form, which are available on the Children's Services web page at www.southpasadenaca.gov/children and in the library. Submitted stories can be up to 300 words, or 1 page typed. One entry per person. No weapons may be used in the story. All entries must be the original work of the student. Parents may transcribe a young child's story. Entries will be judged for creativity and originality. The winning compositions will be featured on the library's website and social media. The entries will be judged by the Children's Services librarians and by special judge, Sam Wineman, a Los Angeles based writer and director known for his horror film, The Quiet Room.
