First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 95 Low: 63. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Farm-to-Fork small growers and producers definitely have their advantages, but often there are disadvantages to being a smaller operation. With thousands of small-scale processing plants closing, it's put a pause on the state's meat-packing industry, especially hitting the little guys. The California Department of Food and Agriculture is working with UC Davis and food advocates to help meat processors after pandemic closures are causing prices to skyrocket and wait times to soar. "If you have a single pig and you want us to process it, right now you are looking at March or April before we can get to it," said butcher Adam Knapp. UC Davis has organized a group of farmers, ranchers, small-scale processors and environmentalists to start a discussion on what needs to happen to bring meat to the table for affordable prices. (CBS Sacramento) A red flag warning is being issued through 11:00 a.m. for areas including the Sacramento Valley and the Sierras due to "critical" fire conditions. Dry fuels, gusty winds and low humidity are expected. Unfortunately, the small amount of rain the region experienced over the weekend didn't provide enough moisture to help with dry fuels. (KCRA3) This weekend McClatchy High School became a canvas for the Wide Open Walls Mural Festival. Seniors from the high school's performing and visual arts program created a beautiful mural with each letter in McClatchy representing a different aspect of school life. The mural will stay on the 80-year old building long after the students leave. It's a new addition to one of Sacramento's oldest high schools and the creation of possible new traditions in the years ahead. (CBS Sacramento) Elk Grove's Kyle Larson continued to do the Sacramento region proud with a win at Bristol on Saturday. Larson made the winning pass on lap 397 of 400 and with it sealed his sixth victory this season. "Yeah, that was an awesome race," said Larson, who won for the first time at Bristol and the 12th time in his career. "It was so cool to be able to race there for the win." (Folsom Telegraph)Itching to head back up to Tahoe now that the Caldor Fire is under control? Well, now you can. The full reopening of Hwy 50 between Kyburz and Meyers is scheduled for 8 a.m. today, according to Caltrans. The area was opened to all evacuated residents yesterday. The Caldor Fire ignited Aug. 14 and was at 75% contained as of Monday morning. (KCRA3) Today's Sacramento Daily is brought to you by our friends at Ring, the home security company.
