SHOREWOOD, IL — After serving as interim village administrator since May, Shorewood's long time Police Chief Aaron Klima is set to become the permanent village administrator in January, according to Shorewood Mayor Clarence "CC" DeBold. Klima's change in position means Shorewood is now in the process of seeking applications for a new police chief. The village has been advertising its open police chief's position the past few weeks. The application deadline ends Friday, Oct. 2. Klima has been the chief of police with Shorewood since September 2011. Shorewood announced the police chief position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Candidates must have a minimum of 15 years of law enforcement experience with a progressive history of leadership advancement, the listing noted. The salary range for the next chief of police is between $123,348 and $144,717 depending on qualifications. Shorewood has about 30 police officers and the village's population is now more than 18,000 residents. Shorewood "also offers an outstanding benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision insurance, wellness program, participation in our pension program, vacation leave, paid holiday and personal time, sick leave, tuition reimbursement, basic and optional life insurance," applicants are advised. "The successful candidate will be decisive, forward-thinking, and able to build and improve processes in an organization striving to deliver exceptional customer service," the job opening states. Job applicants are asked to submit a resume, cover letter, and contact information for five professional references by Oct. 2 to Village of Shorewood Executive Assistant Toni Dulny at [email protected].
