PLAINFIELD, IL — An SUV and semi-truck collided near Main Street and Route 30 Monday morning, sending the woman driving the SUV to the hospital with minor injuries, Plainfield fire officials said. The Plainfield Fire Department got a call of a crash at the busy intersection around 6:30 a.m. The truck driver was turning left onto Main Street as the woman driving the SUV, going south, was trying to clear the intersection on yellow. The two collided as the SUV slammed into the front right tire of the semi, according to officials. The truck, empty at the time, was towed from the intersection. The woman was able to get out of her car, but it was "totaled," Fire Chief Jon Stratton told Patch. "It was one of those things where traffic was a mess," Stratton said. "Everything was stopped because of the way the truck was turning." Stratton said the woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the truck driver refused medical care. After the two drivers were taken care of, emergency response teams cleared the intersection in about 20 minutes, the chief said.
