TikTok Challenge Inspires Damage, Theft At Council Rock Schools

NEWTOWN, PA — Council Rock has joined a growing list of school districts across the country that are dealing with social media-inspired vandalism and theft, according to a report. Officials in the district recently confirmed to the Bucks County Courier Times that a viral TikTok challenge known as "devious licks" led students to damage, destroy and steal soap dispensers. The viral challenge has encouraged students throughout the U.S. to trash school bathrooms and steal items over the past few weeks. Inmate At Bucks Co. Jail Dies Saturday; Officials Investigating Council Rock officials sent letters to parents warning of potential consequences for anyone who vandalizes or steals school property for views on social media, the Bucks County Courier Times reports. The letters warn that police could be called if students commit "destructive vandalism," the report states. Similar vandalism was also reported at Hatboro-Horsham High School, according to the report. Council Rock North Students To Host 'Outrace Hunger' Virtual 5K An Alabama high school student was recently charged after he was accused of stealing a fire extinguisher from their school as part of the "devious licks" challenge, the Associated Press reports. A 15-year-old Florida high school student was also arrested after his school reported damaged and missing soap dispensers linked to the challenge. TikTok said last week that it was banning content related to the "devious licks" trend, which started in August as students were returning to in-person instruction for the start of the new school year.
