Malvern PorchFest Will Return On Oct. 2 With 17 Performances

MALVERN, PA — In less than two weeks, 17 musicians will take the "stage" and perform on porches and in front yards throughout Malvern for the annual Malvern PorchFest. The event will be on Saturday, Oct. 2 from noon to 6 p.m. Performances, free to attend, will take place at 12 homes throughout the borough, and the day will end with a 5 p.m. show at the Burke Park gazebo. Attendees should bring a chair or blanket and take a walking tour of the performances – which will offer a variety of music genres – around town. "In essence, it [Malvern PorchFest] is a number of small concerts by local musicians that are performed on Malvern Borough porches and front yards on a Saturday afternoon," the Malvern PorchFest Committee wrote on the event's website. "Borough residents and other local community members are invited to stroll the borough neighborhoods and listen to a variety of performers." For anyone wishing to drive, free parking is available at Malvern train station, the First Baptist Church and several municipal lots around town. Street parking may be available at some of the locations, the Committee wrote on the website. A full list of performances can be found below, and an official schedule will be posted to the Malvern PorchFest Facebook page later this week. Dogs and alcohol should be left at home, the Committee said. Among the Malvern PorchFest performers is Auld String Theory, a group that performs Celtic, Old Time and American Song influences; and Rented Mule, a band specializing in bluegrass and country music. The first PorchFest was in Ithaca, New York in 2007. It has since spread to towns and cities across the country, including nearby Wayne and West Philadelphia.
