Man Robs Elmhurst Convenience Store: Cops

ELMHURST, IL – A man approached the clerk to make a purchase early Monday afternoon at an Elmhurst gas station, then jumped over the counter, police said. The man began the robbery once the cash register was opened, according to a police news release. He pulled the register away from the clerk, then grabbed cash, police said. The robbery was at 1:45 p.m. at Thorntons, 476 N. York St., police said. The man was said to have run north on York, then west along Lake Street. Local schools were placed on a temporary "soft lockdown" while the search for the man was taking place and until it was determined that the suspect was no longer in the area, police said. The man was described as black, 6-foot-4, 25 to 35 years old and having a small lateral scar on the front of his neck. He also was described as having a medium build and wearing a blue and white surgical style mask, a gray and white hoodie and dark blue running pants with a lighter blue stripe. Police said the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050.
