Press release from the City of Cincinnati: September 10, 2021 Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman, Members of Council, Police Chief Eliot Isaac joined Cheryl Cole, the Cole Family and Friends for the dedication of Officer David L. Cole Memorial Way. Gilbert Avenue at Florence Avenue in the Walnut Hills neighborhood has received an honorary, secondary name of David L. Cole Memorial Way, in memory of Cincinnati Police Officer David L. Cole and in recognition of his service to the City of Cincinnati. David L. Cole served the Cincinnati Police Department from July 20, 1969, to July 17, 1974. David Cole served in Police Communications, and then as a patrolman when on July 17, 1974, Officer David L. Cole lost his life at 24 years of age in the line of duty. Officer David L. Cole was dedicated to his job and devoted to his family and an exemplary officer and a fun-loving person. The City of Cincinnati seeks to remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty and so they will never be forgotten; therefore, on August 4, 2021, Cincinnati City Council ordained that Gilbert Avenue at Florence Avenue in the Walnut Hills neighborhood receive the honorary, secondary name of David L. Cole Memorial Way in honor of Cincinnati Police Officer David L. Cole and in recognition of his service to the City of Cincinnati. This press release was produced by the City of Cincinnati.
