We are a small-but-busy Prosthetic and Orthotic laboratory in Selden, NY – our mission is to help restore function and mobility to amputees and persons with neuromuscular disorders or orthopedic problems. We take great care of our patients, and we are growing. We seek an Orthotic and Prosthetic technician assistant. Responsibilities of the position include cleaning our orthotic and prosthetic lab, sweeping the floors, emptying garbage cans, sealing and stripping casts, mixing and pouring plaster, and other aspects of prosthetic and orthotic custom fabrication. We’re willing to train the right person. Initially, the position would be part-time (12 to 16 hours weekly) while we get to know you and see how you fit with our team. Then, once things are moving along smoothly, we’d add more hours. The goal is for the position to grow into a full-time position with lots of added responsibilities and, of course, salary growth. So who is a good candidate for the position? Obviously, we need responsible employees who are committed to the position and show up consistently and on time. You’ll need to be able to lift 50 pounds. If you have hand skills – meaning you can use basic power tools and hand tools – that’s even better. If you have orthotic/prosthetic lab experience, that’s great. Anyone who has done carpentry, handyman-type repairs, auto body or mechanic work, etc., would have the skills to grow this job into a full-time career.
