City of Gary's OKTOBERFEST on Lake Street organized by J& M Excursions, MBTP, #A.N.D. and 21C HS/FL GERMAN Department to raise money. The way our Oktoberfest works in (3) Easy Steps: 1. PURCHASE an OKTOBER FEST ticket! With your ticket you are entitled to drink at the participating bars: 18th Street Brewery OR Thumbs Up 2. POST your picture with your ticket or just the ticket and a sponsor will match the cost of the ticket you post! 3. YOUR TICKET: There are two types of tickets- EINS $20 gets you two beers, entry to Algren Sound Stage and a Deutsche Swag Bag ZWEI $30 gets you two beers,beer tasting, entry to Nelson Algren Sound Stage and a Deutsche Swag Bag   McKenya Dilworth views the arts, including the literary arts, as tools of empowerment. Each presentation, workshop and production is provides another opportunity to use this performing arts form as a way to facilitate a meaningful discussion about many social issues and challenges. She has served as the executive director of the oldest continuing community theatre in Gary, Indiana, artist in residence for the New Directional Players, at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, company manager for the famed Negro Ensemble Company in New York City and creative writing instructor at the renowned Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC. Ms. Dilworth has performed and produced shows that she has written throughout the Midwest and internationally: including Belgium, Poland, Brazil, Japan and England. She founded the Theatre of Purpose (TOP), a performance ensemble theatre that uses the live performing arts as a platform for how to seriously raise and discuss social action and change through the live performing arts. Holding degrees in both Theatre and German from Simpson College, it has has proven to be assets in her artistic career progression because it has allowed both her theatre and language skills to blossum, while conducting and producing workshops and shows in the States and internationally. With a Master’s Degree in Education, she has served as the Lead Teacher at TC Satellite Campus in Alexandria, Virginia, involved with a model school for the 21st century classroom. She taught Theatre Arts and German at the Satellite Campus. She is currently a professor of German at NOVA Community College in Alexandria, Virginia. Dilworth’s writing has been published in the national publication of Recreation and Parks Magazine, Port of Harlem, and Urbanite Magazines. Her poetry has appeared in the anthology entitled, "Steel Pudding". Dilworth founded the PLAYFEST in Alexandria four years ago. It gives novice playwrights a platform to express and expose their talents.
