DARIEN, IL — Darien's weekly increase in new coronavirus cases was the smallest since early August, according to the DuPage County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 1,951 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 16 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 24 new cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths increased by one in the last week, to 24. The latest death before last week's was in early September. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. The figure compares to 97 in La Grange Park, 101 in DuPage County, 102 in Hinsdale, 105 in Elmhurst, 110 in Clarendon Hills, 111 in Western Springs, 112 in suburban Cook County, 114 in Burr Ridge and 131 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,590,342, up 1.7 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 24,546. Nationally, 41.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2.5 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 670,565 people have died from the virus in the United States.
