CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago alderman was attacked while on the city's North Side Saturday night.
James Cappleman, alderman of the 46th Ward that covers much of the city's Uptown and Lake View neighborhoods, was in the 4700 block of North Racine Avenue in Uptown when he was attacked around 7:15 p.m., according to multiple reports. A suspect has been taken into custody.
Chicago police did not identify Cappleman by name, but did say in a statement that it was the alderman of the 46th Ward who was the victim. Police said he was struck with "a blunt object" during a disturbance at 7:13 p.m.
Chicago police told Patch charges were still pending later Sunday morning.
Cappleman has represented the 46th Ward in the Chicago City Council since he was elected in 2011. He has been reelected twice since.
