Description

Walking Tour. West 10th Street between 5th and 6th and Madison Square. Historic Connections & Observations. This in-person tour will take place on West 10th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues and will feature the very special relation- ship between one of the most beautiful blocks in New York City filled with a myriad of hidden stories — with many ties to historic and vibrant Madison Square. Miriam Berman, author and urban archivist has studied, explored and experienced each of these areas first hand for over 35 years — very fortunate to have been both a Madison Square business owner and a 10th Street residential tenant. Throughout the years she has enjoyed the many parallels between the two and will share many of her unique observations. Since the publication of her book, Madison Square — The Park and Its Celebrated Landmarks (Gibbs Smith Publisher) in 2001, she has given tours of the Madison Square area for the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership and continues to pursue her career as a graphic designer. The Hudson Park Library has served Greenwich Village since 1906. In 1920, the building was extended eastward, allowing patrons to enter the library from the newly extended Seventh Avenue South. Today, Hudson Park Library is a relaxing place to work, read, and play.
