Description

Wild rumors, impropriety, spurned lovers, murder, and shocking fur thefts play into this tour of Chicago's glitzy Gold Coast addresses. Join tour guide Patti Swanson for an gasp-worthy exploration of perversion, passion, and corruption in the Second City—from the drama of high-profile luminaries like Bertha Palmer and Jane Byrne, to the tales of the criminal nobodies once found haunting the city’s dark corners, looking to score a quick buck. It might seem like exposed ankles were the peak of public outrage in the high society circles of yesteryear, but the true misadventures and misfortunes of the city’s elite are delightfully salacious still today. Those exposed to this "Century of Scandal" tour might just fall prey to a fainting spell—but fear not, vapors will be provided for those who brave this dive into Chicago’s degenerate past. Be sure to bring your pearls, your furs, and your biggest rhinestones: you'll need something to hang on to as your sense of high propriety is shocked to smithereens. Offered in partnership with Mysterious Chicago and Effing Chicago. DETAILS: Meet your guide at the street-level exit of the Clark and Division stop, near the entrance to Jewel-Osco. Please be on time! Paid parking is available nearby, but we recommend taking public transit. Please dress appropriately for a two-mile outdoor walk. Wear comfortable shoes and bring bottled water! There will be cursing, some murderous tales, and stories of old-timey affairs. Probably not the best tour for young children or prudish grandparents. No restrooms will be available during this program.Tips are welcome and appreciated, as are donations to Chicago for Chicagoans!
