Description

Join us for the release of a commemorative Single Malt crafted with Brett Ferencz/ScotchTrooper *If you can't make the release, we can hold your bottle for up to 30 days after the event at the ASW Exchange* As you may know, one of the whiskey community’s most endearing members, Brett Ferencz – known as ScotchTrooper within whiskey circles – fought pancreatic cancer to a draw earlier this year, and ultimately took the Death Star down with him. An incredible person, friend, father, colleague, and advocate for whiskey-makers the world over, Brett's impact on the distilling community was unparalleled, as he brought his characteristic wit, wisdom, and amazing palate to everything he did. He also had a strong impact on the ASW family, as he led the charge for us in opening the ASW Exchange barrelhouse. During his time with our team, he worked with Master Distiller Justin to create a mashbill reminiscent of the Speyside Single Malts that Brett was so fond of. Together, they ended up crafting a mash bill of 76% Speyside distilling malt and 24% applewood smoked malt. After taking narrow cuts during distillation and aging the single malt in new oak barrels for the first phase of its maturation, Justin and Brett decided to finish the whiskey in 2 different types of casks common to Single Malts: Port Casks and Sherry Barrels, Brett’s favorite. As a nod to Brett’s love of all things Star Wars, and to the style of Single Malt that resulted from this collaboration, we named the whiskey Space Hide. Now that Space Hide is matured to perfection and ready to bottle, we will be donating proceeds from the Sherry Cask Space Hide, with a goal of raising $20,000 for Brett’s legacy – his 2 daughters. We will be bottling both the Sherry Cask and the Port Cask Space Hide Single Malt barrels at Cask Strength (~110 proof). Each bottle of the Sherry Cask edition will come with a custom sticker emblazoned with Brett’s ScotchTrooper logo. Both the Sherry Cask and the Port Cask barrels will yield around 225 bottles. We hope you can join us Saturday, September 25, at the location Brett helped us open, ASW Exchange (1000 White Street, Atlanta, GA 30310) to honor ScotchTrooper. May the pour-th we with you. Tasting notes for each barrel are: Sherry Cask: Nose – Bergamot, Creme brulee, Golden raisin, Ginger // Palate – Cherry Coke, Cinnamon, Early Gray tea, Ginger, HoneyPort Cask: Nose – Blackberry, Cherry pie, Green apple, Honey Orange marmalade // Palate – Almond, Cinnamon toast, Leather, Plum, Tobacco As Atlanta's Hometown Whiskey Distillery, we craft double pot still rye, bourbon, and malt whiskies, plus apple brandy with local Georgia produce, using traditional Scottish-style stills and Southern flavor innovations like grain-in distillation. We hope to help put Atlanta on the map when it comes to craft distilling.
