Press release from the Summit Public Schools: 2021-09-17 Jefferson Librarian Introduces STEAM Activity, Shares Airplane Adventure Jefferson Librarian Ms. Thomas introduced aerospace topics including gravity and force to students, while speaking about her own experience flying in a Cessna plane! The lesson and activity ties into the Jefferson library's theme of, 'Empowering a Curious Community'. "This year, I am 'pushing' the curiosity theme through exploration and research in the library media center. This is a great way to share my adventure, and encourage students!" - Ms. ThomasMs. Thomas' son is a Curry Cadet with the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the Air Force which engages with young people who are interested in aerospace careers in a Scout-like organization. At his commanding officer's encouragement, Ms. Thomas became an Aerospace Education Member near the end of the last school year. As an AEM, she has access to a wealth of curriculum materials and free STEAM kits. Last weekend, she had another unique opportunity: she met with a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol, who gave her an introduction to the basics of flying and a ride in a Cessna!
