(KCRA3) The Sacramento City Council approved $29 million to support local businesses still weathering through the pandemic as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. The ARPA funding includes $3.5 million for the Sacramento Inclusive Economic Development Collaborative which works to meet the needs of small minority businesses. Funds will be available for distribution to businesses throughout the entire city of Sacramento, although details on that fund distribution are still being planned by the Sacramento City council. (KCRA3) The pandemic has taken a toll on the childcare industry in Sacramento. District 6 Councilman Eric Guerra said "In Sacramento, during the pandemic, 156 child care centers closed and that's about 12% of the region's supply, and 272 child care homes have closed and that's 41% of the regional supply. So we've lost a tremendous amount of resources." Guerra hopes progress can be made through more funding. Yet with an unbalanced ratio of caregivers to children and the prevalence of the delta variant, Sacramento's childcare industry may struggle a little while longer. Guerra says the city is in the process of establishing a task force to tackle this specific issue. An Instagram user posted video of the incident. The user said that someone had yelled about a gun, which started a stampede and mayhem in the stands. Deputies believe that someone setting off fireworks caused the panic. No shots were fired and no firearms were found.
