Description

OSWEGO, IL — September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and to raise awareness, hundreds of Jeep owners come together annually to complete a 15-mile ride. This year, "The Wave" Jeep Ride will take place Sept. 26. The fourth annual event, hosted by the Bike Bald Group, will see Jeeps decorated under the theme "all things kids love," from superheroes and Disney to legos and stuffed animals. Prizes will be awarded to the cars best decorated and to kids' favorite. Bike Bald Group was founded in 2004 by a multiple-time cancer survivor who wanted to support families whose children were dealing with lifelong illnesses and cancer, according to its website. This year, organizers are hoping 250 Jeeps will show up in support — one jeep represents one child, according to the Facebook event. Each participating Jeep will don a gold ribbon to show support for a child with cancer. After the 15-mile ride, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Theodore Street in Oswego — up the road from the Bike Bald Group, at 27 Stonehill Drive — a family-friendly after-party will be held at Oswego Brewing Co., 61 Main Street. Food will be provided by the Wurst Kitchen Food Truck. All Jeeps are required to be registered — which costs $30 per car — prior to the event, according to organizers. The last day to enter is Sept. 25. More information about the organizers and event can be found on the Bike Bald Group website.
