Michael Coffey, Robert Modica and Juliann O’Meara Establish CMO Former partners and leaders from the country’s leading insurance defense law firms – Michael Coffey, Robert Modica and Juliann O’Meara – have launched a progressive, cutting-edge law firm focused on insurance defense, Coffey Modica O’Meara LLP (CMO). Based in White Plains, NY, the firm has offices in Manhattan, New Jersey and Connecticut. The co-founders all have roots with AmLaw 200 law firm Wilson Elser and have worked for other prominent national law firms, serving as either managing partner of a region and/or head of a practice. “We wanted to shift the paradigm of how law firms practice,” shared Coffey, a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and one of the insurance industry’s top trial attorneys and litigators. “We offer attorneys and staff a “Google-like” culture, with an office hoteling model similar to what consulting firms have used for years, access to the highest technology, e-bikes to ride to court and other local-area destinations, video games in the conference room, generous benefits and other perks to promote the culture we feel is important to foster in a post-COVID world.” “Times have changed,” continued O’Meara, who serves as firm managing partner, overseeing the entire firm and the day-to-day operations of the New York offices. “We can’t return to old ways; we have to adapt. And that’s what we are doing. We are hiring skilled attorneys with experience at the highest levels including those who held positions as corporation counsel for the city of New York and as federal prosecutors.” Since launching the firm in August, the firm has grown from its initial three to a total of 13 attorneys – two senior counsels, two of counsel and six associates – and four staff. In addition to Coffey, Modica and O’Meara, attorneys include Sandra Courbois, Patricia Mooney, Kathleen Nagle, Brendan O’Meara, Nicolette Argyropoulos, Jessica Bornes, Maxwell Bottini, Dominic Donato, Sherri Jayson and Rachael Marvin. CMO represents all major insurers throughout the country as well as Lloyd’s of London syndicates and leading self-insured companies with the following primary practice areas: Casualty; Community & Homeowners’ Association Law; Construction & Construction Defect; Cyber, Technology, & Media; Directors and Officers; Employment Law; Environment/Toxic Tort; Government Affairs & Compliance; Life, Health, Disability & ERISA; Medical Malpractice; Professional Liability and Trucking &Transportation. Among the industries CMO services are aviation, cannabis, construction, energy, environmental, finance, hospitality, insurance, reinsurance, manufacturing, nonprofit, professional services, real estate, technology and transportation. “We are moving full steam ahead,” explained Modica, who serves as managing partner of the New Jersey office. “All of our clients moved with us to our new firm, and colleagues with whom we’ve worked over the years are inquiring about joining the firm.” Coffey Modica O’Meara LLP is a New York-based insurance defense law firm with offices Manhattan and White Plains, New Jersey and Connecticut. The firm represents the country’s largest insurers and self-insureds across many disciplines and industries. Known for being aggressive trial attorneys and litigators, CMO resolves matters on behalf of its clients with the most cost-effective resolutions that are aligned with their short- and long-term business goals and culture.
