WOBURN, MA — The Massachusetts National Guard will help with school transportation in five additional school districts, Gov. Charlie Baker said Friday. Guard members will drive 7D vans in Brockton, Framingham, Holyoke, Quincy and Woburn, amid a significant statewide shortage of bus drivers. Baker previously said Monday that 250 Guard members had been activated to assist in Chelsea, Lawrence, Lowell and Lynn. The expansion falls under the same order. More than 190 members of the guard completed certifications to operate 7D vans this week. 7D vehicles carry up to 10 people, plus the driver. "In accordance with school transportation worker requirements, the orientation process included vehicle training, background screening, as well as a thorough review of all health and safety measures," Baker said. "Beyond those certified as drivers, approximately 40 members of the Guard are activated to provide operational support for the mission."
