Description
Hello! I play upright and electric bass and am looking to create a small group focused on improv & original music. Naturally you'll bring your genuine love for yourself, and certainly your own influences and inspirations. At 50 I am a guy who is comfortable with many genres on bass. Looking for strings, keys, lead vocals. This will be rooted in a jazzy way. Sophisticated. Likely brass, woodwind could join in when appropriate. Vocals, I am interested in a mature and capable lady who desires to front a tight, chilled yet progressive classic lineup of 4 core musicians. Ella Fitzgerald, I Threes, Winehouse, Brickell/Simon...not in order of preference and list can go on and on... Kimberly Bass you say who? Look up my friend KB, we did a fine trio together back in Cali. I want to bring extra attention to the singer here, because she should be the focus of this group. She likes being the center like a queen. :) Guitar usually turns out to be a guy, but lady pickers are welcome...maybe have love for Joe Pass, Alex Lifeson, Zappa, Robbie Krieger, Page, Vai... if you know of R.L. Burnside, Estas Tonne, Jay Tausig, Scott Huckabay then big points! I know 3 of them personally & musically. Piano could have anywhere from Bill Evans, Terry Riley, Ray Manzerek to Elton John in their soul, like me. Doesn't feel like a band with a drummer at this time. If you do stuff like the percussionist in Buena Vista Social Club I will want to meet you. Brushes and mallets... Some about me..... vision here is to be well versed in total improv. Studio & live work. Would be nice to have this group well prepared for live private functions in a fair amount of time. Explore covers and originals as they arise. The last real band I pulled together was 30 years ago and we paved the way for the band 311. Lord Have Mercy reggae rock! A few years back I was an engineer and just overall steward at a cool set of studios we assembled in an old theater around Shasta, CA with Sylvia Massy. I got vaccinated, you need to be on board too. I'm doing my level best to find common ground with those opposed to vaccination & safety during this pandemic. I'm inactive but trained as a first responder / firefighter. I feel like I have a good perspective on safety. Whatever gets going here it will be with the utmost respect for each other and families and needs therein. Wrap.... This is intended to be a journey, pathway, back into live music entertainment in venues they way we used to do, or a hybrid of that plan if 2022 is stressful again. Accept open air / outdoors bookings we find appropriate. I realize all of us are in many directions right now, but I wish for this to be an outlet for creativity and inlet for income. I'm interested in being paid well as usual. Self promote but seek management. Lastly, the idea with scaled back drums/percussion is so we can perform within a controlled volume at fine dining and spiritual environments ie theaters, churches and halls. Enjoy the day. Thanks for looking!
