Description

In 2005, 56% of the U.S. enlisted military members identified as "Republicans" In 2013, this number dropped to 41% In 2020, this umber dropped again to 32%. Less than one third of our military claim to be Republicans. Does this mean that our military is becoming Democratic Party members? Not so fast. Yes, the number of military members who claim to be democrats has increased over 15 years, but so has the number of enlisted personal who claim NO party. Enlisted personnel tend to vote for who they think will be a stronger leader regardless of party affiliation. Political party affiliation matters less now than ever to military members. The number of soldiers who feel no party affiliation is rising steadily. Part of this may be due to the fact that soldiers need to remain politically unbiased to do their job well, soldiers defend all Americans. Part of this may be due to the fact that Soldiers have seen the death, suffering and pain that war brings. It has been many decades since a democratic president has entered a war. Less than one third of the US military identify as conservatives. The majority of the U.S. military identify as independents. I like the idea that our U.S. troops are free thinkers and not swayed by party affiliations. America needs more independent thinking and less herd affiliations.
