YANG METAL RAT - Philly Premiere
ALL AGES
Philly Premiere of a documentary portrait of China in January of 2020.
On January 18th, 2020 a filmmaker took a vacation to China. He witnessed the start of the Covid-19 outbreak and a country in crisis. From the creators of the controversial documentary NIGHTCRAWLERS, YANG METAL RAT is a found footage documentary that puts audiences in the point of view of a spectator at the center of a global catastrophe, as the people of China face the mounting crisis of a Covid-19 virus outbreak during the celebration of the Chinese New Year. Unfolding in real time, the film paints a picture from the other side of the looking glass, a gateway into the soul of citizens’ perspective seldom seen. A surveillance state and major world power in the midst of economic and natural disaster. With a haunting score from NIGHTCRAWLERS director Stephen McCoy, it's a hallucinatory and visceral journey through vast empty shopping malls and claustrophobic street corners to the final flight out of the city before lockdown.
