Description

The N4A Stewards are excited to organize this event to help our community swap resources so more people are able to go recreate outdoors. Let’s have a gear swap!!! The Nature for All Stewards are excited to organize this event to help our community share & swap resources and get more people outdoors, eliminating the barrier and cost of getting gear to get outside. If you want to attend, come by the Audubon Center @ Debs Park anytime on Saturday, October 16th from 12-4:00 pm to shop lightly used, second-hand outdoor gear from friends and community members. This gear swap will include outdoor clothes (hiking shirts/shorts, hats and +), outdoor gear (tents, sleeping pads, cooking kits, hiking boots etc.), recreational gear (like bikes, snowshoes +), and more! One of our Stewards, Remi Mateo, will also be leading a hike in the morning before the gear swap kicks off. Meet-up time for the hike will be 10 am so get your steps in and you may be likely to spot some native wildlife at the beautiful Debs park.Since our event is focused on bringing together the community to increase outdoor accessibility and also focusing on sustainability, we will have vendors who will be offering outdoor clothing repair and mending- bring that north face sweater or Patagonia puffy that needs some TLC! Come swap or buy affordable gear, hike, make outdoorsy friends, and dance! (Yes, there will be music). Whatever the reason is that brings you, we cannot wait to see and meet you on Saturday, October 16th at Debs Park. Invite family, friends, and co-workers, just don’t forget to RSVP Today! When you register, we will send you a follow-up email before the event with more instructions on how to prepare your items for the swap or donation and how to drop off! Thanks for participating! Purpose of the event + why should you join? Many of us, and probably you too, have had limited resources and barriers to accessing nature and the outdoors. Over time, we have learned how to borrow or haggle deals on our outdoor gear and the Nature for All Stewards thought it was time to bring our nature-loving community together to pass on some of the gear we no longer use or need, extending the life and purpose of our gear. This gear swap is also meant to bring awareness to sustainability and repurposing our outdoor items, giving community members the opportunity to explore the outdoors and try new recreational activities. This event is all about gathering community and sharing space and knowledge to increase outdoor accessibility while doing so sustainably. How you can get involved and Support:RSVP Today! OUR WORK: Nature For All advocates for policies and programs that will: PROTECT the mountains and rivers in our area, to conserve resources and be more climate-resilient.CREATE more natural spaces such as parks and bike paths in our historically underserved neighborhoods.CONNECT people to public lands through more trails and other outdoor recreational opportunities, to improve public health. In 2014, we were successful, when President Obama designated the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. It was an amazing victory—and gave us the momentum to expand our efforts. In 2017, San Gabriel Mountains Forever was reintroduced as Nature for All to build a diverse base of support for ensuring that everyone in the Los Angeles area—no matter where they live—has equitable access to the wide range of benefits that nature can provide. Nature For All remains committed to our efforts in the San Gabriel Mountains, with a direct focus on federal legislation to protect the San Gabriel Mountains. INSTAGRAM: @lanatureforall
