Here are the top stories today in Madison: Freakfest is off! For the second year in a row, the downtown Madison Halloween fest is canceled. The City of Madison cited COVID-19 concerns, specifically the rise of the delta virus, in its decision. So start looking for some new and safe ways to celebrate Oct. 31. (Wisconsin State Journal) The UW-Madison graduates of 2020 are graduating again! The university is hosting a ceremony in Camp Randall for grads whose had virtual ceremonies because of COVID-19. (Daily Cardinal) Have you ever heard of Mildred Fish-Harnack? The UW-Madison graduate was executed in 1943 while she was in Germany organizing against Hitler. Rebecca Donner is Fish-Harnack's great-grand-niece, and the author of a new book detailing her aunt's life. (Isthmus) A Madison man is serving 18 years in prison after pleading guilty for reckless homicide. The shooting took place in June 2020.
