HARLEM, NY — More than a year after a man was killed on a Harlem street in a drive-by shooting, police have arrested a suspect and charged him with murder, authorities said on Thursday.
Freddy Polanco, 21, a Bronx resident, was arrested in connection with the Aug. 19, 2020 killing of Irvin Payne, a 30-year-old father who was standing on Lenox Avenue near West 140th Street.
Payne, a Bronx resident and father of a young daughter, was visiting relatives in Harlem when he was gunned down around 3:10 a.m. outside the Savoy Park Apartments by someone firing from a white vehicle, the Daily News reported at the time. Payne's relatives struggled to understand what could have motivated the killing.
Polanco is facing a murder charge and two gun-related charges, police said.
