Here are the top stories today in Burlington and the surrounding area: The city of Burlington seeks to increase oversight of the Sears Lane homeless encampment in the south end of the city. The oversight plan, set to last until September 2022, would require hiring managers to oversee the process. The draft calls for site development tasks such as regular surveillance and food donations, cleaning, spots for tents, plumbing and WiFi. (Rutland Herald)The Burlington School District has narrowed its search for a new high school site. The first option would be a site near the former high school on Institute Road. The other option would keep students downtown on the Gateway Block site that is currently occupied by Memorial Auditorium. (WWLP.com)A new animal rescue in Burlington is focusing on finding new homes for nontraditional pets. Safe Haven Critter Rescue works primarily for small mammals and reptiles. The rescue is accepting new foster families, but is not taking in new animals due to an overwhelming amount of surrender requests.
