Princeton's Cannabis Task Force To Hold Public Meeting Saturday

PRINCETON, NJ —The township's Cannabis Task Force (CTF) will be hosting its second public meeting on Saturday at 10 a.m. The meeting is scheduled to be held in person outside at Hinds Plaza, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be moved to the Zoom platform. Click here for the meeting link. The CTF is working on making its final recommendation to Council regarding allowing cannabis businesses in town and where such businesses could be located. Based on the recommendation from the Task Force, an ordinance will be presented to Council during the second half of October. Officials had earlier told Patch that the Task Force was leaning towards recommending to Council that they allow cannabis dispensaries to operate in any commercially zoned area in the township. Read More Here: Cannabis Dispensaries Coming To Princeton Pending Public Input In August, the Council decided to temporarily opt-out of permitting marijuana businesses to operate in town, to give the CTF time to draft recommendations for an opt-in ordinance after reviewing regulations set by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission. The task force has identified six to seven potential areas where dispensaries will be located. They include the Central Business District, the Jugtown area, Witherspoon Street, 206 North, and Princeton Shopping Center. The recommendation is for retail only. The CTF will also be focusing on the racial justice and social equity aspect of having marijuana dispensaries in town. The task force would like to engage in more public discussion before presenting their recommendations to the council. The public is invited to participate in the discussion. In the November election, Mercer County voted overwhelmingly in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.
