Here are the top stories in San Diego today: The unemployment rate in San Diego County decreased to 6.6 percent from a revised 6.9 percent in July, well below the year-ago estimate of 10.8 percent, according to figures released by the state Employment Development Department. (City News Service)The San Diego City Council's Land Use & Housing Committee approved Mayor Todd Gloria's program to permanently approve some outdoor dining and retail spaces, bringing the program one step closer to full council approval. Gloria's "Spaces as Places" program will head to the full City Council in October.
