Rep. Herrin In Phoenixville Sunday For 'The Story Of Plastic'

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Community leaders will gather to speak at a screening of "The Story of Plastic" on Sunday afternoon at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville. Pennsylvania Rep. Dianne Herrin (D-156th) will speak on the issue of plastic waste and its effects, along with West Chester University Asst. Professor of Communication and Media Megan Schreadley, and Maurice Sampson, Eastern PA Director of Clean Water Action. The question to be addressed after a 3 p.m. screening of the film "The Story of Plastic," is how have those who have banned plastic managed to do it? The United States generates more plastic waste than any nation on Earth, according to a 2020 study reported by National Geographic. An Environmental Protection Agency report in 2018 found plastic waste accounts for 12 percent of all municipal solid waste, a total of 35, 680, 000 tons of plastic being thrown out each year. EPA's 2018 report said 3,090,000 tons of plastic is recycled each year. The film begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Colonial Theatre in downtown Phoenixville and a panel discussion with Herrin, Schreadley, and Sampson will follow from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Colonial Theatre requires proof of vaccination or proof of negative test within 72 hours, as well as masking inside the theatre.
