PHILADELPHIA — The man who was beaten to death outside Pat's King of Steaks this week has been identified.
According to Action News, the victim is Isidro Cortez, 28, of Queens, New York.
Cortez, along with his 64-year-old father and a 28-year-old friend, were attacked outside the popular cheesesteak business at about 1:56 a.m. Thursday.
Reports state Cortez, his dad, and friend, were at the business when they and a group of men
got into an argument.
Pat's owner Frank Olivieri told Philadelphia Magazine that all seemed fine but then the men's body language changed.
"One person stands up and cold-cocks another," he said.
During the brawl, one of the attackers grabbed a metal trash can lid, striking Cortez with it.
Cortez reportedly fell to the ground and other men started punching and kicking him.
The attacking group was wearing jerseys featuring the colors of Mexican side Club America, which played the Union in Chester Wednesday.
The attackers left the area in a white SUV and headed north on East Passyunk Avenue.
Olivieri and Geno's owner Geno Vento asked police for the late-night police detail.
