Press release from the Kansas City Parks & Recreation Department: September 17, 2021 Training Session This Saturday Who: Volunteers who have signed up for Kansas City's Adopt a Monument Program What: Training for volunteers on how to properly clean and help maintain sculptures and monuments Where: Stone Sculpture at 52nd and Brookside Boulevard When: Saturday, September 18th at 9am Why: To help maintain and restore Kansas City's Public Art throughout the community. Paul Benson, a retired Nelson Atkins Conservator will demonstrate proper cleaning methods for stone sculptures to help the volunteers know how to help keep them in good condition.  Benson is a member of the Kansas City Adopt a Monument program and he provides all the material and the many years of expertise to local Kansas City Homes Associations so they can protect their fountains and sculptures. How: Adopt A Monument, a committee of The City of Fountains Foundation, provides cleaning demonstrations for local neighborhood associations, conducts private tours of Kansas City fountains and surveys new local art for inclusion in the Inventory of American Art on  the Smithsonian website.
