Downers Grove North Named 'School Of Distinction' For Arts, Media

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove North was one of just five schools to be named a "School of Distinction" by the Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA). The inaugural award was given to schools with "rigorous art, design and media education programs," a news release said. "I am incredibly proud of the visual art team of the DGN Fine Arts Department for their work in pursuing this high level of distinction," Downers Grove North High School Fine Arts Department Chair Brayer Teague said in the news release. Teague added, "Ms. Bernard, Ms. Bican, Mr. Hoering and Mr. Voelker are all exceptional educators, and this award speaks to the comprehensive course offerings and high level of community engagement within our Fine Arts community." Bernard, Bican, Hoering and Voelker are part of the high school's arts department. In selecting its schools of distinction, IAEA sought out schools with media and fine arts courses that engage students creatively and collaborativey while nurturing emotional and social skills.
