Mooresville Town Officials Seek Public Input On New Zoning Rules

MOORESVILLE, NC — Mooresville Town officials are seeking the public's help in creating a new development ordinance which they hope will make for a more user-friendly and modern set of guidelines when it comes to land use. Town officials are in the process of rewriting its zoning ordinance, which they said is being guided by the OneMooresville Comprehensive Plan. But officials hope that the new Unified Development Ordinance will also be guided by public opinion, which officials said is essential to the development of the new plan. The UDO will encompass all areas of Mooresville's land use guidelines, including those behind why the Town has zoning, definitions of new base zoning district names and how zoning uses are approved, town officials said in a news release Friday. Local residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback in upcoming months when meetings – held both virtually and in-person – will take place. These meetings will not only include an explanation of what the new ordinance will entail but will allow officials to better understand what local residents are seeking in the updated document. The first meeting will take place on Sept. 22 when a virtual meeting will be held at 10 a.m. and an in-person meeting will take place at 4 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Mooresville Town Hall, which is located at 413 N. Main St. A second virtual meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Sept. 24. Links to the meeting along with other information will soon be made available at the town's zoning plan website, where opportunities for feedback will also be available.
