TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County School System is asking parents to be aware of a destructive social media challenge that has school officials on high alert across the country. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts Referred to as "Devious Licks," the new trend involves students damaging or stealing school property and posting the footage of the incident online to social media platforms such as TikTok. TCSS Superintendent Keri Johnson, in a letter to parents and guardians, ask the TCSS community to take this as an opportunity to discuss with students the real-world dangers and consequences that come with acts posted on social media. "If a student is caught participating in this 'challenge,' the student will face disciplinary action, and there could be legal ramifications," she said. "Not only does this behavior result in significant monetary losses for schools, the time spent to investigate an incident like this is time taken away from the mission of our schools – to educate students.
