SOUTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — Taking another step to get residents protected against COVID-19, the Town of Hempstead will hold a free vaccination event at the Congregational Church of South Hempstead. It is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. The COVID-19 vaccine will be administered by Town of Hempstead EMS staff. Walk-ups are welcome. "The Town of Hempstead continues to work with local community leaders, organizations and clergy to help provide resources to assist residents throughout the pandemic," Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin said in a statement. "Thanks to the work of the Vaxmobile, in conjunction with Mount Sinai South Nassau, and our homebound and mobile vaccination program offered by our in-house EMS Department, the Town of Hempstead has provided thousands of free COVID-19 vaccines to residents to help put an end to this pandemic." The church is located on 416 Woodland Drive. Across the state, more than 58,000 vaccine doses were given in a 24-hour period this week, Gov. Kathy Hochul's office said. More than 79 percent of all New Yorkers aged 18 and older have received at least one dose.
