Description

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Cartersville High School student Joshua Nicholas Munoz has been identified as one of 66 students selected by State School Superintendent Richard Woods to serve on the 2021-22 Student Advisory Council. These students meet with Woods throughout the year to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom, according to a Georgia DOE news release. "Year after year, my Student Advisory Council is an invaluable resource as I make decisions that impact students across the state," Woods said. "Getting to know these students and seeking their feedback and perspectives allows all of us at the Georgia Department of Education to make the best possible policy choices." The council includes representation from at least four students from every Regional Educational Service Agency district in the state. Members were selected from 1,000 applicants from grades 10-12. Council members were selected based on their answers to an essay question on their ideas for public education. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a Georgia public high school for the 2021-22 school year. Virtual learning students are considered enrolled.
