MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — A lag in trash pickup in Mountain Brook by Waste Management has been a source of frustration among the city's residents over the last several weeks. WM is still four days behind on its pickup schedule, but city officials say the company is working to get caught up.
City manager Sam Gaston said Waste Management is running four rear loader trucks Friday. A fifth driver was sent home because she was sick.
Friday, they are finishing the last 11 streets from last Friday's routes and moving on to the Monday's routes which have already been partially served, then they will proceed to the Tuesday routes.
"WM plans to work four truck crews on Saturday to hopefully finish all the Tuesday routes by the end of the day," Gaston said. "This puts WM behind by three days on garbage collection starting next Monday."
Gaston said the city is meeting with WM Monday morning to discuss their plans to get caught up and back on schedule.
"Next week is the last week we plan to have our Public Works crews assist WM as we are neglecting other projects/jobs in the city," Gaston said. "Please have your dogs put up so there are not any delays in recovering your garbage. With the altered schedule, we have had some dogs attacking the workers. Also, make sure gates are unlocked for access."
