Description

Smokin' In The Creek Makes Its Return! The annual Sugar Creek Smokin’ in the Creek BBQ Contest will be Friday and Saturday October 15 and 16 at the Mike Onka Memorial Building, 11520 Putnam, Sugar Creek, MO 64054. While the Saturday activities are generally closed to the public (except the awards ceremony slated for 3:30 p.m. Oct. 16), the public is invited to the kick off celebration beginning at 5 p.m. Friday Oct. 15. The city has invited multiple food trucks and KC Ruckus will perform as part of the city’s Concert in the Park series at 7:00pm Friday. Sue Mikula, public works administrative assistant – with the help of the planning committee – has organized the contest every year it’s been held since 2004. With exception to 2020 when COVID-19 cancelled everything, and a few other years, the contest has been an annual staple for Sugar Creek with contestants as far away as Texas and South Dakota. Smokin' in the Creek is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, and all contestants must follow KCBS rules. The winning team will be invited to next year's American Royal barbecue contest, and the winner will also be placed in a drawing for a chance to compete in the Jack Daniel contest in Tennessee. https://www.facebook.com/Smokin-In-The-Creek-BBQ-Contest-2021-551770168181029/?ref=page_internal
