PEABODY, MA —Two insurance agencies with a combined 87 years of history in the city are merging in Peabody.
The Duffy Insurance Agency will acquire the assets of the A.J. George Insurance Agency with A.J. George moving its offices into Duffy's locations. Peter George will join Duffy as a full-time member of the team.
"We are excited to welcome Pete George, A.J. George Insurance Agency, and its customers into the Duffy Family of Insurance Agencies," Marc Duffy of Duffy Insurance said in a joint statement on the merger. "Peter and I have known each other for a long time and have enjoyed a great relationship. Peter has worked very hard for a long time and I am really happy for him and his family."
"It's great to be part of the Duffy Team," Pete George said. "Having access to more insurance companies and the resources of Duffy Insurance will be a win for both me and my customers."
Marc Duffy said his agency will continue to look to acquire and partner with agencies and agency owners in Massachusetts who are considering perpetuation options.
The A.J. George Insurance Agency was founded 62 years ago when Anthony George, Peter's uncle, launched the agency. Nicholas George, Peter's father, joined the agency shortly thereafter and Peter George joined the agency in 1979.
Peter George took over as president and owner in 2005.
The Duffy Family of Insurance Agencies was founded in Lynn in 1996 by the late Paul Duffy. Duffy has offices in Lynn, Gloucester, Peabody, Chelmsford, Georgetown and Marblehead.
