Description

Learn more about the work being done to create longterm affordable housing in Detroit! What is a COMMUNITY LAND TRUST? A community land trust, or CLT, is a nonprofit organization run by community members that holds land on behalf of the community, while serving as the long-term steward for affordable housing, community gardens, civic buildings, commercial spaces and other community assets on behalf of the community. Tell me a bit more about the Detroit Cultivator Community Land Trust! Building on the work of the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm, residents and community-minded advisors formed the Detroit Cultivator Community Land Trust in 2020. Through gifts of land by North End Christian CDC (parent organization of the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm) and others, today Detroit Cultivator owns more than 30 city lots, held in perpetuity for the North End. While there are more than 200 active community land trusts nationwide today, the Detroit Cultivator is the first in Detroit.  How can I be part of it? Whether you live, work, or play on or near DCCLT, there are ways for you to be involved.  We invite you to join us to learn more!  Your participation can help us make Detroit Cultivator a model for urban land trusts nationwide.  What might this mean for me? Community is the most important aspect of any community land trust.  DCCLT will mean homes in the neighborhood that remain affordable, along with more green space, and affordable locations for businesses.  If you are a North End resident and DCCLT member, DCCLT will mean that you get to help decide how this community grows and is shaped.   TO LEARN MORE, JOIN US ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2ND AT 3 pm OR VISIT: detroitjustice.org/community-land-trust-pptx
