OAK CREEK, WI —Over 150 things from across the state were nominated to this year's Coolest Thing Made In Wisconsin contest. Oak Creek's contribution: The Badger Pro+ Integrated Flight Display System.
It's a mouthful, but the "thing" is a set of displays used in helicopters across the world to help navigate and carry out other duties. Astronautics Corporation of America, which is headquartered in Oak Creek, creates the displays.
The screens show pilots data about the engine, navigation, checklists, and even exterior video, according to the company website. They are standard fit on some new Bell helicopters. Beyond the Oak Creek headquarters, Astronautics Corporation of America has a manufacturing plant in Milwaukee and is associated with similar companies across the world, according to its website.
The product will compete against fried chicken, outboard motors, donuts and more to be named one of Wisconsin's coolest things, according to a news release from organizers.
People can vote for the company and its Wisconsin-made product to get past the first round at www.madeinwis.com.
It will compete against 150 other products made in Wisconsin for a shot at being one of the "Coolest Things Made In Wisconsin."
Votes can be cast once per day. First-round voting ends Sept. 21.
The contest has been going on each year since 2016. It's organized by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and Johnson Financial Group, according to a news release from organizers.
